Seeds of Literacy Affiliates with Berea Children’s Home and Family Services

Established in 1997, Seeds of Literacy is a non-profit organization that provides adult literacy, GED tutoring and testing to more than 1,000 adults annually in Cuyahoga County. On July 1, 2011 Seeds of Literacy entered into a formal affiliation with Berea Children’s Home and Family Services. The affiliation will help Seeds of Literacy expand their service offerings to the community and provide a strong educational program for clients of Berea Children’s Home & Family Services. Seeds of Literacy will remain a separate non-profit organization with their own governing board.

“Together, our organizations will have an even greater impact as we continue to improve lives and strengthen our community,” says Bonnie Entler, Executive Director, Seeds of Literacy. The services provided by Seeds of Literacy address a critical need, as literacy impacts ones ability to gain and keep employment, limits ones career opportunities and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. This impacts their ability to gain and keep employment, limits their career opportunities and perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

“We believe that this affiliation is a win-win for both organizations. Seeds of Literacy will provide our organization with literacy and high school equivalency testing, a great addition to the work and employment service programs we currently operate in Cuyahoga County,” says Richard R. Frank, President and CEO, Berea Children’s Home and Family Services. “We can also learn a great deal from Seeds of Literacy regarding their use of volunteers, they have recruited and trained more than 200 volunteer tutors.”
